Publication Metadata only 21. Publication Embargo A comparative performance analyze model and supplier positioning in performance maps for supplier selection and evaluation(Elsevier Science Bv, Sara Burgerhartstraat 25, Po Box 211, 1000 AE Amsterdam, Netherlands, 2012) Bilişik, Mutlu Emir; Çağlar, Hatice Nazan; Alp Bilişik, Özge Nalan; 110809In supply chain, supplier has an important role and in this situation supplier evaluation and selection is gained more significance for companies. So that, it is purposed to improve an evaluation model to evaluate and select suppliers more effectively by correlate with company's supply chain. For that reason, a form is designing to collect data from concerned company's personnel and performance measuring model which includes scoring methodology and correlation analysis that is called as "Performance-Effect" analysis in this study. With this model, it is proposed to divest supplier evaluation from its general evaluation concept by presenting alternative selection criteria, suppliers and methods for working with positioning of these in performance maps.Publication Metadata only A Forgotten Promise Ending the Isolation of Turkish Cypriots(2010) Akgün, İbrahim Mensur; Tiryaki, Sylvia; 103810; 107197Publication Metadata only A Gravity Model: Maritime Transport Costs and Their Impact on Economy(2019-10-04) Çalışkan, Nutren; 221061Due to transportation expenses, trade costs still protects its importance because no matter how companies try, they cannot zeroize their transportation cost. Maritime transportation is the most effective mode to move large quantities of cargo over long distances.1 That is why maritime most preferred transportation mode in international trade. The Gravity Model is a popular model in international trade theory. It named after Newton's "law of gravity." This model says that, trade between countries can be explained by their GDP sizes and transportation costs which are varied by the geographical distance between them. Turkey carries out approximately 70% of its foreign trade using maritime transport. In 2017, Turkey major trading partner countries for exports were Germany, United Kingdom, United Arab Emirates, Iraq and United States and for imports, they were China, Germany, Russian Federation, United States and Italy.2 Making use of these countries maritime transport costs, their GDP’s and their distances between each other, this study investigate the role of maritime freight costs and its effects on these countries economy by using gravity model.Publication Metadata only A Methodological Problem: “Created Artifical Awareness” in CSR Research(2017-06) Arıker, Çağla; 116171When studies on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) are examined, it is seen that most of the studies assume awareness of CSR or create artificial awareness. This is a methodological problem and can be named as “Created Artificial Awareness”. “Created Artificial Awareness” can be defined as generating subjects’ awareness for CSR projects of brands by providing examples through the use of scenarios and / or survey items that include CSR related expressions when collecting data for CSR studies. In this research, two studies were conducted to highlight the effect of “Created Artificial Awareness”. The first objective of the research is to explore real awareness levels of young consumers for CSR projects of the brands they preferred. For this purpose, an open-ended questionnaire was used and participants were asked for explaining the reasons of preference for a brand in Study 1. The main interest is to explore the rate of CSR as a reason of preference without “Created Artificial Awareness” effect. The second objective of the research is to reveal the difference between two studies that have methodological differences in terms of “Created Artificial Awareness”. For this purpose, in Study 2, a close-ended questionnaire that measures attribute preferences including CSR attributes was conducted to the same sample. The results of two studies were compared. The last research objective is to display the effect of “Need for Social Desirability” on indication of CSR related attributes as a reason of preference when “Created Artificial Awareness” effect is in charge due to the close-ended questions.Publication Metadata only A microsoft visual Basic software for B-Spline solution of the one-dimensional heat equation(2008) Çağlar, Hatice Nazan; Çağlar, Süleyman Hikmet; Özer, Mehmet; CUHACI, LEVENT; 110809; 114368; 2509; 112369Publication Metadata only A model proposal for the chaotic structure of Istanbul stock exchange(PERGAMON-ELSEVIER SCIENCE LTD, THE BOULEVARD, LANGFORD LANE, KIDLINGTON, OXFORD OX5 1GB, ENGLAND, 2008-06) İşeri, Müge; Çağlar, Hikmet; Çağlar, Nazan; TR110809; TR114368Chaos theory is considered a novel way of understanding the behaviour of nonlinear dynamic systems. It is well known that the evaluation of chaotic systems is dependent on initial conditions since exponential growth error is a common characteristic. This present paper evaluates the effects of a nonlinear dynamic system in Istanbul Stock Exchange, based on time series. The reliability of predicting stock behaviour depends on this fact. In other words, the aim is to prove that if ISE daily index return shows chaotic behaviour. (C) 2006 Elsevier Ltd. Research on consumer behavior in the field of electronic commerce is widely discussed in the literature. But, in the field of mobile commerce, there are few studies analyzing the behavior of information systems, especially for shopping with mobile applications. If information systems are successfully managed, ways will be made to achieve the desired goal, marketing strategies and channels, sales and more. Thus, it would be advantageous to make mobile technology easy to use, measuring the price sensitivity that affects purchasing decisions, ensuring the adoption of new information systems to enable users to shop with mobile applications. When the variables reach a satisfactory level, mobile marketing will be considered successful. Taking these variables into consideration, an improved model to this research is proposed. Therewith, (N=612) mobile users were questioned in the survey study and used Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) in AMOS program. In the research results, it is found that personal innovativeness is the most influential variable on customer satisfaction about mobile shopping applications. It has also been observed that in shopping by mobile applications, the perceived ease of use and price sensitivity are moderators of personal innovativeness in customer satisfaction. Personal innovativeness is a moderator variable which has a positive effect and it increases customer satisfaction.Publication Metadata only A non polynomial spline solution of the one-dimensional wave equation subject to an integral conservation condition(2010) Çağlar, Hatice Nazan; Çağlar, Süleyman Hikmet; Yılmaz, Serhat; İşeri, Müge; 110809; 114368Hyperbolic partial differential equations with an integral condition serve as models in many branches of physics and technology. Recently, much attention has been expended in studying these equations and there has been a considerable mathematical interest in them. In this work, the solution of the one-dimensional nonlocal hyperbolic equation is presented by the method of non-polynomial cubic splines. Numerical results reveal that present method based on non-polynomial spline is implemented and effective.Publication Metadata only A Pandemic Experience of Remote Working: Reflections on Emotions(Peterlang, 2021) Peksatıcı Yanıkoğlu, Özge; Ergun, Hande Sinem; Samur Teraman; Seray Begüm; 223341; 173087; 31285Covid-19 pandemic employs spectacular and specific characteristics that are unique only to this period. First of all, remote working during Covid-19 is enforced. In other words, it is not a choice but rather an obligation to work remotely. In addition, mobility and socialization are limited under pandemic circumstances. Moreover, companies and employees had to switch remote working suddenly, and therefore they were unprepared for this sudden change (Waizenegger, McKenna, Cai, & Bendz, 2020). Before the pandemic, remote working could have been perceived as a “positive” option that provides more freedom and flexibility to the employees, employers, and scholars in the field. However, Covid-19’s enforced remote working unraveled the efficiencies of our working assumptions and challenged them. In fact, it can be argued that “the meaning of work” has also changed during the pandemic. In order to maintain the “business as usual”, it is on the shoulders of the knowledge workers to quickly adapt to the sudden merge of the living and working environment and the new ways of digital interacting.Publication Metadata only A particle swarm optimization algorithm for makespan and total flowtime minimization in the permutation flowshop sequencing problem(ELSEVIER SCIENCE BV, PO BOX 211, 1000 AE AMSTERDAM, NETHERLANDS, 2007-03-16) Taşgetiren, M. Fatih; Liang, Yun-Chia; Şevkli, Mehmet; Gençyılmaz, Güneş; TR30141; TR43111; TR19428In this paper, a particle swarm optimization algorithm (PSO) is presented to solve the permutation flowshop sequencing problem (PFSP) with the objectives of minimizing makespan and the total flowtime of jobs. For this purpose, a heuristic rule called the smallest position value (SPV) borrowed from the random key representation of Bean [J.C. Bean, Genetic algorithm and random keys for sequencing and optimization, ORSA Journal of Computing 6(2) (1994) 154-160] was developed to enable the continuous particle swarm optimization algorithm to be applied to all classes of sequencing problems. In addition, a very efficient local search, called variable neighborhood search (VNS), was embedded in the PSO algorithm to solve the well known benchmark suites in the literature. The PSO algorithm was applied to both the 90 benchmark instances provided by Taillard [E. Taillard, Benchmarks for basic scheduling problems, European Journal of Operational Research, 64 (1993) 278-285], and the 14,000 random, narrow random and structured benchmark instances provided by Watson et al. [J.P. Watson, L. Barbulescu, L.D. Whitley, A.E. Howe, Contrasting structured and random permutation flowshop scheduling problems: Search space topology and algorithm performance, ORSA Journal of Computing 14(2) (2002) 98-123]. For makespan criterion, the solution quality was evaluated according to the best known solutions provided either by Taillard, or Watson et al. The total flowtime criterion was evaluated with the best known solutions provided by Liu and Reeves [J. Liu, C.R. Reeves, Constructive and composite heuristic solutions to the P parallel to Sigma C-i scheduling problem, European Journal of Operational Research 132 (2001) 439-452], and Rajendran and Ziegler [C. Rajendran, H. Ziegler, Ant-colony algorithms for permutation flowshop scheduling to minimize makespan/total flowtime of jobs, European Journal of Operational Research, 155(2) (2004) 426-438]. For the total flowtime criterion, 57 out of the 90 best known solutions reported by Liu and Reeves, and Rajendran and Ziegler were improved whereas for the makespan criterion, 195 out of the 800 best known solutions for the random and narrow random problems reported by Watson et al. were improved by the VNS version of the PSO algorithm. This article aims to evaluate the Alevi community's changing stance as a sectarian minority within an increasingly conservative Turkish society facing European Union (EU) membership negotiations. We first of all summarise the characteristics of the Alevi community and contextualise the changing role of the Alevi minority in Turkish politics. We focus on Alevi demands as part of the EU adjustment reforms and negotiation process, and present the official responses from the Justice and Development Party (AKP) government as well as the EU authorities.Publication Metadata only A Research on Business Failure/Success Measurement in BIST 100 Firms: An Empirical Analysis(2019-10-14) Çetiner, Emine Müge; 2855Publication Metadata only A six sigma case study in a large-scale auto motive supplier company in Turkey(2012-01-10) Tanık, Murat; 143629Although six sigma is a really effective methodology with its strong data-based decision-making aspect, there are many obstacles and factors that weaken the effectiveness of the projects. This fact is even more obvious in the heavy industry, especially in developing countries such as Turkey, where statistical insight is not very common and systematic approaches are often neglected. Belief systems, culture, knowledge level of data-based decision-making or to put it simply, human factor and its management are the most crucial factor for success. Different cultures and different work environments impose the need for discovering new ways for altering the beliefs and improving the motivation of the project participants. The responsibility of changing the perception of team members lies on the shoulders of quality leaders. The purpose of this study is to highlight some important points that can contribute to the success and effectiveness of future six sigma programmes via data obtained from a number of projects that were carried out in a large automotive supplier in Izmir, Turkey. The authors participated in the programme as project consultants and authors’ observations from management meetings, training courses, and the project meetings are reflected and many key findings are mentioned in the paper.Publication Metadata only A Transnational Account of Turkish Foreign Policy(2020) Kuru, Deniz; PAPUÇÇULAR, HAZAL; 180376This book offers an analysis of Turkish foreign policy based on transnational(ist) perspectives. In order to counterbalance the state-centric accounts that dominate this area of study, the authors provide theoretical frameworks as well as historical and contemporary case studies that emphasize transnational dynamics. The content is divided into four complementary sections that explain and exemplify transnational (f)actors in the context of Turkish foreign policy. The first addresses theoretical and ideational frameworks that illustrate the relevance of a transnational account, while the second demonstrates the possibility of developing transnationally oriented approaches even in historical cases, going beyond a presentist focus. In the third and fourth sections, the book focuses on two prominent non-state actors, namely diaspora communities and non-governmental organizations, which operate at the interstices of the domestic and the international. This allows the authors to highlight the significance of transnational dynamics in Turkey’s foreign policy. Hazal Papuççular is an Assistant Professor at the Department of International Relations, Istanbul Kültür University, Turkey. She completed her Ph.D. in Modern Turkish History at Boğaziçi University’s Atatürk Institute for Modern Turkish History and has written several books, articles and book chapters on Turkish foreign policy. She is the author of Türkiye ve Oniki Ada (1912-1947) (Türkiye İş Bankası Yayınları, 2019) and is currently focusing on Turkey’s transnational diplomatic history. Deniz Kuru is a Lecturer of Political Science at Goethe Universität Frankfurt in Frankfurt am Main, Germany. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Southern California. His current research areas include the intellectual history and sociology of International Relations, German and French foreign policies, Turkey’s global position, global intellectual history and global International Relations.
