- PublicationOpen AccessThe Uyghurian Version of the KA-SI Empathic Tendency Scale-Adolescent Form: Validity and Reliability(Cengiz Alyılmaz, 2022) Yusupu, Reziwanguli; Siyez, Diğdem Müge; KAYA, ALİMThe aim of this study was to examine the factorial validity, measurement invariance across sex, and reliability of a Uyghurian version of the KA-SI Empathic Tendency Scale-Adolescent Form (KA-SI AF) among adolescents in Xinjiang, China. A total of 331 middle and high school students (198 girls, 133 boys) were included in the sample. Research data was collected via KA-SI AF and demographic questionnaire. Confirmatory factor analyses supported a two-dimensional structure (cognitive and emotional). Multi-group CFA supported measurement invariance across sex groups. The Uyghur form of KA-SI AF yielded excellent reliability values from .84 to .90. Findings suggest that Uyghur version of the KA-SI AF was valid and reliable measure of empathic tendency suitable for middle and high school students.
- PublicationOpen AccessThe Role of Academic Motivation in Predicting Turkish Undergraduates’ Life Satisfaction and Academic Procrastination(Turkish Psychological Counseling and Guidance Association, 2021) GÜDÜL, MERYEM DEMİR; Can, Gürhan; Ceyhan, Aydoğan AykutThe present study aims to determine the motivational profiles of university students through a person-centered approach and to examine the relationship between motivational profiles, academic procrastination, and life satisfaction. The study participants comprised 1,770 undergraduates (1019 female, 749 male, and 2 not specified), who were categorized into three main profiles: (a) students with high levels of both intrinsic and extrinsic motivation but with a low level of amotivation (33.8%), those with a "high-level academic motivation profile"; (b) students with moderate levels of both intrinsic and extrinsic motivation but with low levels of amotivation (44.9%), those with a "medium-level academic motivation profile"; and (c) students with low levels of both intrinsic and extrinsic motivation with high levels of amotivation (21.3%), those with a "low-level academic motivation profile. The results of this study revealed that students with a high-level academic motivation profile have a high level of life satisfaction and a low level of academic procrastination. The results also show that students with medium-level academic motivation profiles have higher levels of life satisfaction than students with low-level academic motivation profiles. However, the academic procrastination level of students with medium-level academic motivation was found to be lower than that of students with a low-level academic motivation profile. © Common Ground Research Networks, Lindsay Asquith, Sumati Ahuja, All Rights Reserved.
- PublicationOpen AccessBiological Rhythm Disturbances in Drug-Free Adult ADHD Patients(Psikofarmakoloji Derneği adına Mesut Çetin, 2019) Tarakçıoğlu, Mahmut Cem; Sakarya, Direnç; AKSOY, SENNUR GÜNAY; Sakarya, Ayşegül; Aksoy, Umut MertObjective: The aim of study was to examine the biological rhythms in drug-free ADHD patients with healthy controls in across-sectional study.Methods: 50 adult ADHD patients %26 female) between 17 and 42 years old (M=27.76 SD:6.80) and healthy controls (%56.6female) between 18 and 63 years old (M=31.39 SD:8.12) were recruited from Health Sciences University’s Bakirkoy MentalHealth Training and Research Hospital. Participants were assessed with clinical interview, Wender-Utah Adult ADHD RatingScale and the Biological Rhythms Interview of Assessment in Neuropsychiatry (BRIAN).Results: Adult ADHD patients scored higher on total scores (t=8.75, p<0.001), eating patterns (t=2.55, p<0.001), sleep patternssocial rhythm (t=3.41, p=0.001) and activity levels (t=3.0, p<0.001) in regarding to biologic rhythms. In the BRIAN subdomains;activity levels (t=4.59, p<0.001) and sleep-eating patterns (t=3.62, p<0.001) were also significantly different between the two groups.Conclusions: Our findings suggested that there was a significant difference between ADHD patients and healthy controls inmost dimensions of biorhythm.
- PublicationMetadata onlyDevelopment of a scale for students in evaluating 2017 information technology and software curriculum(ESKISEHIR OSMANGAZI UNIV, FAC EDUCATION, ESKISEHIR OSMANGAZI UNIV, FAC EDUCATION, ESKISEHIR, 26480, TURKEY, 2019-10) Demir, Elif Buğra Kuzu; Gündüz, Gülten FeryalThe purpose of this study was to develop a valid and reliable instrument measuring the views of secondary school 5th grade students on the curriculum of 2017 Information Technology and Software (ITS) course. The study was carried out with 528 5th grade students (15 for pilot application, 320 for exploratory factor analysis (EFA), 203 for confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) studying in the spring semester of 2017-2018 school year. Implementation of the scale was realized with participants who were determined through the combination of criterion and convenience sampling. In order to determine the content validity and face validity of the scale, expert opinions were obtained, while both EFA and CFA were performed to assess the construct validity of the scale's measures. Analyses revealed one-factor structure which sheltered 30 items, which explained 39.92 percent of the total variance with a high internal consistency coefficient. The CFA on the one-factor structure revealed acceptable fit indices as well. Based on these findings, it could be concluded that the scale is an instrument that produces valid and reliable measures, and that can be used to determine fifth grade students' views on the curriculum evaluation of 2017 ITS course. For further studies, the scale can be implemented to a random sample form the population of 5th grade students to reveal their views on the curriculum and studies can be conducted in order to investigate in terms of different variables.
- PublicationMetadata onlyCareer Stress and Psychological Well-Being in Emerging Adulthood: The Moderating Role of Close Relationships(2019-11-15) Erol, Sena; demir, ilkay; Atmacı, Kader; Battal, Elif Nur; 302592; 184598; 299767Previous research linked career stress and poor amount of close relationships to negative psychological outcomes; however few studies focused on moderators in these relationships. The aim of the present study was to test the moderating role of family relations and romantic relationship status on the relationship between career stress and psychological well-being among emerging adults. Participants of the study were 270 university students (213 female; Mage=20,7; SD=2,1) from four universities in Istanbul. The Social and Emotional Loneliness Scale for Adults- Short Form (SELSA-S), PERMA-Profiler and a personal information form were used to collect the data. A three step hierarchical regression analysis was conducted in order to test the significance of the main and interaction effects in the model. The results of regression model revealed significant main effects of career stress, family relations, romantic relationship status and age on psychological well-being. Furthermore, results showed that family relations moderated the relationships between career stress and psychological well-being, while romantic relationship status yielded no significant interaction effects. In order to further examine the significant interaction effects in the model, a moderation analysis was conducted. The results indicate that less loneliness within the family, buffer the negative impact of career stress on psychological well-being.
