Violence, Wars, and the Possibility of Ethical Life in an Apocalypse: A Kantian Reading of The Walking Dead
(De Gruyter, 2021) SAKIZLI, SELDA SALMAN
The Walking Dead is a popular TV series depicting a catastrophic and violent world. After a pandemic that turns humans into zombies, we witness the collapse of civilization with all its institutions, the depletion of the resources, and the struggle to build a new world in the middle of the wars between surviving groups. It illustrates a world of literal and metaphorical homo homini lupus. Some people choose sheer survival, and others try to build a moral, civil world. In this article, I propose a reading of this series from a Kantian perspective by employing his interrelated ideas on history, ethics, and politics. I claim that The Walking Dead represents the state of nature and the violence it contains, and illustrates the course of history toward a civil society as defined by Kant.

Saf Aklın Eleştirisi’nde Şematizmin Rolü ve Önemi
(Mustafa Çevik, 2021) SAKIZLI, SELDA SALMAN
This article focuses on Transcendental Schematism in the Critique of Pure Reason. Schematism has the utmost importance for the explanation of the deduction of the categories, and application of the pure concepts to experience. As the material of sensibility and understanding are heterogeneous, schematism bears the vital role of rendering them homogeneous for the possibility of cognition. Thus, schematism both elucidates the structure of the determinate judgments and the ground of transcendental philosophy by subtly building a bridge between the sensibility and understanding. Despite its significance, schematism is often criticized for its difficulty and incomprehensibility. In this context, this study aims to illuminate the structure of schematism and underline the importance of it for transcendental philosophy as it is presented by Kant in the Critique of Pure Reason.

Kant’ın Müzik Anlayışı, Sınır ve İmkanları
(Işıl Bayar Bravo/Hamdi Bravo, 2021) SAKIZLI, SELDA SALMAN
