A short review of alpha activity In cognitive processes and in cognitive impairment
Abstract
Aim of the report: In the companion report (Basar, this volume), the physiological fundaments of alpha activity in integrative brain function are described. The present report is a review of the significant role of alpha activity in memory and cognitive processes in healthy subjects, and in cognitive impairment. The role of neurotransmitters is also described, briefly, in this context.
Towards an understanding of brain alpha: Despite numerous experimental studies, it is indicated that the presented results are only appropriate to establish an ensemble of reasonings and suggestions for analyzing "alphas" in the whole brain. In turn, in the near future, these reasonings and suggestions may serve (or are indispensable to serve) as fundaments of more general and tenable hypotheses on the genesis and function of "alphas". A review of alpha activity in integrative brain function: Fundamental physiology, Sensory coding, cognition and pathology
Başar, Erol (Elsevier Science Bv, Po Box 211, 1000 Ae Amsterdam, Netherlands, 2012-10)Aim of the review: Questions related to the genesis and functional correlates of the brain's alpha oscillations around 10 Hz (Alpha) are one of the fundamental research areas in neuroscience. In recent decades, analysis ... -
Event related desynchronization: use as a neurophysiologic marker is restricted
Başar, Erol; Turp Gölbaşı, Bilge (Springer, Van Godewijckstraat 30, 3311 Gz Dordrecht, Netherlands, 2014-12)The present research aims to show that the occurrence of alpha blocking or event-related desynchronization (ERD) strongly depends on the amplitude and also on the phase angle of alpha activity at the stimulus onset. Simple ... -
On the improvement of Mocanu's conditions
Nunokawa, M.; Owa, Shigeyoshi; Cho, N. E.; Sokół, J.; Yavuz Duman, Emel (Springer International Publishing, 2013-12)We estimate |Arg{p(z)}| for functions of the form p(z)=1+a1z+a2z2+a3z3+⋯ in the unit disc D={z:|z|<1} under several assumptions. By using Nunokawa’s lemma, we improve a few of Mocanu’s results obtained by differential ...
